The Young Spinner Makes Unexpected Inclusion in English Test Series Team

The English team has opted for a 12-man squad just 48 hours ahead of the opening Test match, with Shoaib Bashir earning a surprise spot.

The 22-year-old’s inclusion indicates that the tourists will wait until the day of the first Test to determine whether Perth Stadium pitch favor four seamers or the inclusion of a spinner.

Jofra Archer and Mark Wood are included in the selected group, indicating there are no doubts about their pace bowler’s condition.

The other seamers round out the bowling group, with Carse most likely to miss out if the spinner makes the final team.

Ground Conditions Lean Toward Seamers

The England coach had been expected to choose an pace-only lineup on a ground that has hosted five past matches.

During these matches, the majority of dismissals have fallen to pace bowling, with only a small number to spin.

Of those spin dismissals, the veteran spinner has claimed the bulk, while overseas slow bowlers combined have only eight.

On a ground renowned for its speed and carry, and whose curator, Isaac McDonald, pledged that these traits are “a mainstay and not going to change,” a side relying on fast bowlers remains the probable decision.

Spin Options Weighed

There had been rumors that Will Jacks could be parachuted into the side to offer some spin while also strengthening the batting lineup.

Earlier, Nathan Lyon described the English spinner as “decent,” adding that “in my eyes, Jack Leach is still England’s best spinner.”

“I won't reveal my strategies so they perform and excel out here.”
