Significant Online Disruption Impacts Many Sites and Mobile Apps

A widespread internet outage has impacted many sites and applications worldwide, with users experiencing problems getting online due to difficulties at Amazon’s web hosting system.

The disrupted platforms encompass the social media app Snapchat, Roblox, Signal, and the language learning app Duolingo, along with a host of Amazon-owned operations including its primary shopping site and the Ring doorbell doorbell company.

In the UK, the financial institution Lloyds was disrupted along with its affiliates the bank Halifax and Bank of Scotland, with further notifications of issues accessing the HM Revenue and Customs site on that morning. Additionally in Britain, several Ring device owners used online platforms to report their home gadgets were not working.

Solely in the United Kingdom, reports of problems on specific applications totaled the many thousands for every service.

The company stated that the outage originated in the eastern region of the US at Amazon Web Services, a section that supplies essential internet framework for a host of companies, who utilize capacity on Amazon servers. The cloud platform is the world’s largest online services platform.

Just after late night (PDT) in the America (8 in the morning BST), Amazon confirmed “increased problem frequencies and slowdowns” for the cloud services in a zone on the east coast of the United States. Cisco’s Thousand Eyes, a tool that monitors online failures, further indicated a rise in problems on the start of the week, including several cases located in the Virginia area, the region of Amazon’s US-East-1 region where officials confirmed the issues originated.
