The future president of the Oxford Union has been removed from his position after losing a vote of confidence that followed his disputed social media posts about the conservative activist.
The motion against George Abaraonye reached the required two-thirds threshold to remove him from office, according to an announcement from the organization.
The controversy erupted after Mr Abaraonye reportedly shared messages on social media that seemed to celebrate the death of the American conservative figure, who was fatally shot while speaking at a college in the United States.
According to reports, one social media message reportedly stated "Charlie Kirk got shot loool" - using an elongated version of the phrase 'lol'.
The president-elect is also reported to have posted in a messaging group with fellow students seeming to welcome the incident.
The vote of confidence took place over the recent days, with outcomes announced on Tuesday.
Society announcements showed that 1,228 ballots were cast supporting removal, while 501 were opposed the motion.
The notice confirmed that the president-elect was considered to have resigned in accordance with the Oxford Union's rules.
Proceedings were informally suspended early on the previous day after the election official was reportedly subjected to "interference, threats, and inappropriate behavior" from multiple individuals.
In a statement, the student claimed that the count had been stopped because election administrators believed "no legitimate and true result could be reached as a result of process errors".
His response unequivocally denied that any person appointed by George had participated in intimidating or disruptive behavior.
The president-elect maintained that extremely serious issues had been referred to the disciplinary committee and that he remained the elected leader.
His comment added that he was "proud and thankful to have the support of well in excess of a majority of university members" who supported a "secure voting process and resist attempts to subvert democracy".
Critics have said that any failure to remove him would "signal to the world that the society has chosen ideology over integrity".
On recently, Kirk's former chief of staff read out an open letter to the Oxford Union on a related program podcast.
The letter accused the union of becoming a institution where "presidents of the union publicly celebrate the assassination of a ideological rival".
The communication indicated that if the student were to remain in post, Kirk's allies would "directly reach out to every U.S. political figure who has ever graced the union's chamber and urge them never again to lend their name".
The society had earlier condemned Mr Abaraonye's comments after Kirk's death and confirmed that concerns filed against him had been referred for official review.
The student leader had been one of multiple members to discuss with Kirk at the society in May.
