The Yuletide season offer a plethora of activities far superior than catching up on the latest news: discovering surprises, indulging in holiday treats, and using patience techniques to not yelling at relatives. It is wished you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items surfaced over the festive period, and just in case you didn't see a few, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.
Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the notorious controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. The show will return with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which might be a hopeful indicator. But, the main art for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, by now, they must be teasing the fans.
Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now everyone is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.
One more studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
Shortly after the conclusion of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has not been disclosed yet.
